Researchers and clinicians may not have first-hand experience of the illness, health condition or treatment that they wish to research. Seeking input from patients or the public can provide important insights into what it is like to live with a particular illness or health condition, or to receive a treatment such as a blood transfusion. These insights can help to make health research more relevant to the needs of patients, carers and service users.
We would welcome contact from anyone who has received a blood transfusion or an alternative to blood (for example, iron to support anaemia before an elective surgery) and who would like to get involved in our activities. Please contact us by email at [email protected] if you would like to find out more about getting involved with the work of the SRI.
The SRI follows the guidance provided by NHSBT’s Patient and Public Advisory Group, full details of which can be found at Patient and public involvement and engagement in research – NHS Blood and Transplant.
