Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) refers to a person’s overall well-being in terms of their physical, mental, and social health, particularly how these dimensions are impacted by illness, injury, or medical treatments. It differs from general quality of life by focusing specifically on health factors that affect an individual’s daily functioning and life satisfaction.
HRQOL is a critical measure in health economics as it is used to assess the impact of diseases, treatments, and interventions on a patient’s life. It is often used in conjunction with cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) to evaluate healthcare interventions, determining not only how long a person lives (quantity of life) but also how well they live (quality of life).
